Effective non-corrosive olefin hydration catalyst and process

Olefin hydration reactions are commercially important as the hydration products find several important industrial applications; however, due to the nature of the reaction, the yields from olefin hydration are often low requiring strong acids in most cases to promote the reaction. It will be desirable to develop effective olefin hydration catalysts, such as molybdenum-based supported solid catalysts and high acidic zeolite based catalysts, to address these challenges. Equally important will be processes, possibly a catalytic membrane process, to overcome the thermodynamic limitations associated with olefin hydration reactions.
